The Background
De Beers had been an Apogee client for a number of years, but following the Anglo American takeover the newly formed larger organisation found itself in a situation where it had multiple print suppliers in place.
Anglo American recognised that this could lead to inefficiencies and that they needed to consolidate its suppliers in order to gain control of costs and document security. It was also key that they had a solution to reduce waste across the organisation.
The Solution
By going to tender, Anglo American was keen to test the market and compare the offerings of Apogee, its existing supplier and other competitors. Anglo had already conducted its own internal audit of document production, removing the need for the Apogee team to take this step.
Having reviewed the audit data, Apogee’s team formulated a bespoke solution that closely mirrored what was already in place at De Beers. With optimising the infrastructure and reducing costs being the priorities, Apogee installed print control software in the current devices.
In addition, Apogee introduced ‘follow-me’ printing software which provided a roaming print solution where users print to a single queue and jobs will be “pulled” to any printer where users authentication is required. This secure printing module ensures print jobs will not sit uncollected on the printer, instead; jobs only print when released by the user reducing waste whilst maintaining security levels.
The Outcome
By partnering with Apogee, Anglo American is able to benefit from reduced document production costs, lower levels of waste printing and improved efficiency. Printing across the organisation can now be managed and tracked centrally, giving far greater control.
The ‘follow-me’ print solution has been extended to provide the company with secure printing capabilities. With all documents now protected by card readers, this ensures that all printed materials can only be accessed by the originating user.
